According to a recent survey by deVere Group, nearly four out of five high-net-worth clients asked their financial advisors about adding crypto assets to their portfolios.Although 2022 was a challenging year for the crypto sector, 82% of millionaire clients explored investing in digital assets such as Bitcoin. The results of a recent survey by financial advisory firm deVere Group, released on 30 January, showed that eight in 10 high-net-worth individuals (with investable assets between $1.2 million and $6.1 million) surveyed had sought crypto advice from financial advisors in the past 12 months.Nigel Green, CEO and founder of deVere Group, said that while the group surveyed was “typically more conservative”, he believes the interest stems from Bitcoin’s core values of “digital, global, borderless and decentralised”. The firm’s studies in previous years have shown that the interest of wealthy investors in crypto investments tends to increase. A study conducted by DeVere in 2020 revealed that 73% of the 700 high net worth individuals surveyed owned or wanted to invest in cryptocurrencies by the end of 2022. The firm’s 2019 research revealed that 68% of high-wealth individuals had invested or planned to invest in crypto by the end of 2022. Green also stated that the growing interest of legacy financial institutions such as Fidelity, BlackRock and JPMorgan in offering crypto services to their customers is a good sign for the industry. “Bitcoin is on track to have its best January since 2013, with inflation peaking, monetary policies becoming more favourable and expectations that various crypto sector crises, including high-profile bankruptcies, are now in the rear-view mirror,” said DeVere CEO, adding that he believes this momentum of interest could increase further as the “crypto winter” in 2022 thaws following changing conditions in the traditional financial system. “A report published by PricewaterhouseCoopers in June showed that about one-third of the 89 traditional hedge funds surveyed invested in digital assets such as BTC. According to a report published by JP Morgan Chase on 13 December, about 13% of the American population (about 43 million people) have owned cryptocurrency at some point in their lives. In 2020, this rate was only around 3%.
