El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, known for his interest in cryptocurrencies, reported that El Salvador will start buying one Bitcoin (BTC) every day.The Central American country of El Salvador last purchased Bitcoin (BTC) in July 2022. At the time, it reported buying about 80 BTC at $19,000. El Salvador also allegedly holds 2,381 BTC, averaging $43,357. This amount is accurate at the time of the President’s announcement of Bitcoin investments, but cannot be verified as there is no public registry system that identifies purchases.The country has also allegedly spent approximately $103.23 million on Bitcoin purchases to date.Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at close to $16,500, indicating that the country’s total BTC portfolio is $39.47 million and that it has lost more than $63 million from these purchases. Bukele had previously stated that he did not sell any of the crypto assets he acquired from the purchases, while he did not share the actual wallet addresses associated with the previous purchases.Despite the huge losses caused by the public funds he used to invest in Bitcoin, it is often talked about by the financial markets that El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele really believes in Bitcoin. The President of El Salvador also tweeted earlier this week that “FTX is the opposite of Bitcoin.” The statement after Bukele’s announcement came from Justin Sun, the founder of Tron. Sun said, “Starting tomorrow, we will buy a Bitcoin every day.”
